wonderland
Master Garrett Eckbo had a hand in the design of this original mid-century garden as he had for much of the street back in its inception, but 60 years later the original house and yard had survived as best they could with the extremes of SoCal climates and were in need of some re-invention. We got to work with the planting layout.
The poured-in-place concrete pavers emulated the originals, which had degraded beyond repair. A stunning ginko tree with a western sycamore companion were left in place and provided beautiful abstractions as they shed seasonally on the newly installed Cali bent grass ‘lawn’. Planting varieties are a little bit antipodean, a little African, and a little bit desert with a nod to the silver sage greens of Mediterranean olives and lavender.
