the doñas
A talented young family finished renovating their new property and we were excited to work some magic into the front and back of the non-existing landscape. The house sat atop a steep slope in dire need of retaining. We threw up a stack brick wall at the front and pony walls along the entrance pathway as an architectural nod to the mid-century. Working with drought-hardy natives and upcycled plants, we added airy open-formed grasses and acacias. For fun, we planted a microcosm of tropical banana, farfugium, and strelitzia under the deeply shaded portico.
